| There's not a simple explanation for that, but I'll try anyway.
Because things are, well, crowdier outside, the game takes longer to process it, thus your computer becomes slower.

| Each tile that isnt ground on your screen is a screen is a seperate gamemaker object I believe. Each gamemaker object contains many extraneous variables and stuff that pt really doesnt need, but the way gamemaker is set up, you cant change it, which leads to a huge slow down in the graphics when there are a lot of objects.
