So I bought Dead Space: Extraction yesterday because gamestop dropped its used price to $15 and metacritic said it was pretty good. After playing through the first mission, I'd have to agree. I've personally never played an on rails game before, so I wasn't really sure how it would work. But it wasn't as bad as I expected based on all the whining I have seen on joystiq. Almost like an interractive movie, really. So far I've only gotten through the first mission though, so I'll update this topic as I get farther. If you've got the spare money I suggest picking it up =p

I dislike the idea of an on-rails game. Gives you less freedom...

It's better than watching a movie =p I mean, if you just took a game like Halo and put it on rails it would suck. You have to replace the freedom with a well executed and constant storyline to make the game worth playing.

On rails? do u mean this in the same way as a train? like zelda spirit tracks? or u mean a game that dosnt give you much freedom? and that you have to follow the storyline precisely without being able to wander off and do what u want? :S

He means the latter, Mango. I've never played an on-rails shooter myself, though that might be because I generally dislike the shooter games. Metroid is the one exception to that, and I didn't think I'd like it until I played it. But Metroid is definitely not an on-rails game.

It'd be really funny if DS:E was set on a train
