| I played it once in a store. Controls were challenging at first. I hope you can use a Gamecube controller...
But Luigi. definitley the best.

| 5a) Light characters.
Name: Baby Mario
Bonuses: Weight +11%
Handling +7%
Analysis: Well, the weight can help you a lot with other light characters, but
with medium and heavy characters they’ll simply knock you over anyway. The
handling bonus is the best of all the light characters too. Overall, this is
probably a good kart to pick if you’re a beginner.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Baby Luigi
Bonuses: Speed +6%
Weight +11%
Analysis: Like Baby Mario he adds a bit of extra bulk to the vehicles.
However, Baby Luigi also makes you go slightly faster. This makes him a good
choice if you decide to pick a kart or bike with a low top speed.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Baby Peach
Bonuses: Speed +4%
Weight +7%
Acceleration +4%
Handling+4%
Analysis: Baby Peach is underrated, if you ask me. Few characters add bonuses
to four categories, and three are in the most important categories (I don’t
think I need to tell you what they are). Pick this if you want a little extra
in all the essentials.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Baby Daisy
Bonuses: Speed +6%
Weight +7%
Mini-Turbo +4%
Analysis: Baby Daisy is a pretty nice choice too. The speed she gets is great,
and the weight bonus can help with other light characters. However, another
cool thing is that she gets a better mini-turbo, although this doesn’t mean
much if you use automatic. Baby Daisy is worth using if you like to have a lot
of extra speed to your vehicle.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Toad
Bonuses: Acceleration +7%
Drift +7%
Analysis: Well, he adds a fair bit to the acceleration (which in a game filled
with items is always a plus). The drift he adds is also nice, especially on
karts or bikes with low drift settings. Toad is worth trying if you’re worried
that you’ll get hit by lots of items (which would be completely
understandable).
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Toadette
Bonuses: Speed +4%
Off-Road + 8%
Analysis: I think that Toadette is highly overrated. Everyone seems to think
she’s brilliant. The Off-Road that she adds is definitely notable, but once
you get the hang of staying on the road it’s minimally essential, except on
tracks with a lot of off-road areas. She does get
a nice speed increase, but then so does Baby Peach. Only use Toadette if
you’re not very good at staying on roads.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Koopa Troopa
Bonuses: Handling +4%
Mini-Turbo+ 8%
Analysis: If you use automatic, he’s not that great. If you use manual
however, the extra boost this guy gets from drifts is definitely a great aid,
and also his handling bonus isn’t to be shunned. I use him occasionally; he’s
best on courses with lots of turns or straight roads (depending on the vehicle
you use).
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Mii (Small)
Bonuses: Speed +4%
Weight +4%
Drift +4%
Mini-Turbo +4%
Analysis: As well as being yourself amongst all the famous Mario characters,
you get some nice stats increases to boot. The combination of drift and mini-
turbo bonuses is always good, and means that on tracks with lots of corners
you can abuse it as much as you want. Overall, the Mii is second only to Baby
Peach.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
5b) Medium Characters
Name: Mario
Bonuses: Weight +7%
Acceleration +4%
Handling +4%
Drift +4%
Analysis: Mario is not only good at rescuing Princess Peach, he’s also well
skilled on the race course, which is just as well, since the game is named
after him. He has bonuses in four categories, which is not common amongst the
cast. Use him if you’re a beginner.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Luigi
Bonuses: Speed +3%
Weight +7%
Analysis: Once again, Luigi is left in the shadows of his more famous brother
Mario. His slight speed increase is nice, as is the weight added, but it isn’t
enough to make up for the fact that he has little else going for him. Avoid
Luigi; use Mario or someone else instead.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Peach
Bonuses: Speed +3%
Acceleration +7%
Drift +7%
Analysis: As well as a minor speed increase, Peach also gets a lot more
acceleration and drifting ability too. Ultimately, this drift isn’t very
useful if you prefer conventional turning though. Overall, Peach is a good
character to pick if you’re a beginner because of her increases speed and
acceleration.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Daisy
Bonuses: Speed +6%
Handling +4%
Mini-Turbo +4%
Analysis: Daisy’s bonuses are surprisingly varied. She gets a lot of extra
speed, but at the same time a small increase in handling skills. She also gets
a mini-turbo bonus, which comes in handy if you choose manual over automatic.
Daisy is for those of you who like to have some extra speed to your vehicle.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Yoshi
Bonuses: Weight +4%
Drift +4%
Off-Road +7%
Analysis: Yoshi is a bit like Toadette, except slightly better. His off-road
is helpful for beginners, and his drift increase can be quite helpful. His
weight doesn’t really make much difference really. Yoshi might be an OK
choice, but I generally prefer Daisy or Peach.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Birdo
Bonuses: Weight +4%
Off-Road +4%
Mini-Turbo +7%
Analysis: I really like the mini-turbo bonus Birdo gets. Otherwise, Birdo is
quite similar to Yoshi really, what with the weight and off-road increases she
gets. Birdo is pretty good; I would recommend it if you use mini-turbos a lot
and at the same time like some extra weight.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Diddy Kong
Bonuses: Acceleration +4%
Drift +4%
Mini-Turbo +7%
Analysis: He has the same mini-turbo increase as Birdo, and he also gets extra
acceleration and drifting. The bonus acceleration can be helpful against item-
friendly opponents, especially if you’re using a vehicle with low
acceleration. The drift increase is also very nice, which essentially makes
spamming mini-turbos on corners a piece of cake with the right vehicle.
Overall, Diddy Kong is worth playing as; one of the better medium weight
characters in my opinion.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Bowser Jr.
Bonuses: Off-Road +4%
Mini-Turbo +4%
Analysis: Oh dear. Bowser Jr. is definitely the worst of all the medium
characters. In fact, he gets far less bonuses to his stats than any other
character in the entire game, let alone amongst the medium class. Although the
bonuses he has can be a minor help, he has so few of them that it’s pathetic.
Avoid Bowser Jr. for sure.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Mii (Medium)
Bonuses: Speed +3%
Weight +4%
Off-Road +4%
Mini-Turbo +4%
Analysis: This is a bit more like it. As well as getting increases in off-road
and mini-turbos, the Mii also gets some extra weight, and it even gets a minor
speed to help. However, although it is well balanced in its extra attributes,
it still isn’t as good as some of the others. Still, it’s at least worth a
try, and I use it because that’s the class my Mii comes under. :)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
5c) Heavy characters
Name: Wario
Bonuses: Weight +4%
Off-Road +4%
Mini-Turbo +8%
Analysis: This is an interesting one. The off-road can be helpful if you’re a
beginner or on an off-road course (though really I don’t think beginners
should even be playing with many of the heavy vehicles). The extra weight that
he gets makes little difference, because he’ll outweigh all light and medium
vehicles anyway. The highlight of Wario is his immense mini-turbo bonus; one
of the best in the game. Use him if you like to use drift turbos a lot.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Waluigi
Bonuses: Acceleration +7%
Drift +7%
Off-Road +4%
Analysis: Waluigi is quite possibly the best heavy character in the game. He
gets a decent off-road bonus, but that’s hardly the bets of his attributes. He
also gets a lot of extra acceleration, which is a great help, since many heavy
vehicles have low acceleration. And it has extra drift abilities too, which is
useful for spamming drift turbos on turns. Waluigi is definitely a great
choice.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Donkey Kong
Bonuses: Weight +4%
Acceleration +3%
Handling +3%
Mini-Turbo +4%
Analysis: Well, his increases in stats are quite minor, but they’re also very
varied, and his acceleration and mini-turbo increases are very helpful for
the ‘average’ heavy vehicle. The handling can also be useful, as can the extra
weight. Donkey Kong might well be the right choice for you.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Bowser
Bonuses: Speed +3%
Weight +8%
Drift +4%
Analysis: Bowser is easily the heaviest character of them all, which is
helpful against other heavy characters. He also gets some extra speed and
drift ratings, which seems to go hand in hand with what most of the heavy
vehicles are like. Bowser is a definite yes if you like to be the heaviest of
the crowd.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: King Boo
Bonuses: Handling +7%
Off-Road +4%
Analysis: Like quite a few other heavy characters, he gets a slight off-road
increase. But his handling bonus is definitely what makes King Boo stand out.
However, since most of the heavy vehicles rely on drifting rather than
turning, this may be of limited usefulness. Only use him if you pick one of
the better handling vehicles.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Rosalina
Bonuses: Speed +3%
Handling +3%
Mini-Turbo +4%
Analysis: With her extra speed and mini-turbo ability, Rosalina seems to be
all about the speed. She also gets a mild handling increase as well, but as
has already been discussed this may not help much. If you like speed and use
manual rather than automatic, Rosalina could be a good choice.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Funky Kong
Bonuses: Speed +6%
Off-Road +4%
Analysis: Funky Kong seems to get used a lot online, and with good reason. I
mean, look at the extra speed he gets. Combine this with a really fast
vehicle, and you’ll be the fastest guy on the track. And in case you missed a
turn, he can help you to recover. Definitely pick him if you like lots of
speed.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Dry Bowser
Bonuses: Off-Road +8%
Mini-Turbo +8%
Analysis: This is an interesting one. He gets a massive increase on off-road
and mini-turbos, which is extremely helpful, since most heavy vehicles have
low off-road ratings, and also he’s good for using mini-turbos on corners. Dry
Bowser is one of the best of the lot.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Mii (Large)
Bonuses: Speed +3%
Acceleration +3%
Handling +3%
Drift +4%
Analysis: The Mii gives you minor but varied increases in stats. You get extra
speed, acceleration, handling and drift all in one, which isn’t bad at all.
It’s a lot less extreme, and it’s godo at the same time. You should consider
trying out this Mii.
It's why Gamefaqs exists. |
