| I love how they have finally made it fully 3d, I'm also glad that the fire starter doesn't look like s*** thus far.
However, in all honesty I wish they would stop making new pokémon, though I do understand the need to create them to keep interest.
Though frankly I'm sure the older audience of pokémon would be fine with just the first, or first & second generation of pokémon to keep them entertained.

| I agree with Lody, the fire starter has made an improvement since the last two generations. What's the deal with Xerneas? Why make one of the legendaries look like a mix between sawbuck and virizionn? Are they running out of inspiration? What's the deal with it's antlers, I know deers antlers are fairly large but those are ridiculous, you could pick up the local TV network on those things.

| Being one of the older audience I don't really like new pokemon but at the same time I do, and yes I still enjoy 1st and 2nd gen. I will probably get a 3ds and White 2 and x or y not sure. I was hoping for Ruby and Sapphire remake but in-spite of that it looks like they have stopped remaking the games.

| What are your thoughts about X and Y so far?
Unfortunately, I am one of those without a 3DS; however, I am borrowing one to play Pokemon X.
So far, I have appreciated the personal characterization, 3D-battle scenes, Pokemon Hordes, new improvements to current items (such as the Exp. Share even though sometimes I don't want it to share it with the whole team), also the return of older items and themes one being photos (could use your pokemon however), tipping (although I'm not sure what it does for you), additions to trainer communication with pokemon Amie and Super Training, and of course the new feature of sitting on benches!
Although, I find Sky Battles fairly lame, majority of the new pokemon and evolutions most of all to be terrible designs; I thought they could have done better!
Anyway, after defeating 6 gyms so far, the game is beyond what I expected! |

| Alrighty, so I mentioned a while back about a strange Flabebe with an
altered cry from the Battle Chateau...
Well, turns out after battling a Floette, the evolution, the crys were similar!
So, in the Battle Chateau, Baroness Francine actually has a Flabebe with
Floette's cry instead! Thought it was interesting to share that little glitch
I found!

| @Aqamcut - All Pokemon games are on Nintendo consoles only - X and Y in particular are on the 3DS.
@Yollip: You know what, you're absolutely right about the Flabebe thing - I was in the Chateau training a Vivillon I had finished Super Training, when I fought that exact same trainer, and it did have that weird cry. I had just fought a Flabebe outside so I knew what it sounded like, and hers had the cry of a Floette I wonder how / why that happens...

| These new Pokemon games may just be the best ones yet. Game Freak has improved upon many features, as well as adding some of the best new ones. |

| Yeah they did improve on a lot, though I did feel that a few things were worse.
The storyline is probably the worst one yet in my opinion, team flare tries to kill all people and pokemon and most people hardly even care <_< Also apparently the pokemon world now thinks its ok for openly evil people to be part of the elite 4. Plus just in general team flare was very kiddy and stupid, which made their goal even more out of place.
Outside of that, the game was way too easy if you tried to catch every pokemon along the way. Would have been nice if the xp for catching was reduced or if they included a hard mode.
Despite all that though, I've already put over 100 hours into the game after just 1 month =p

I agree with you quite a bit in regards to what's in your spoiler. I want to expand on those points as to why I didn't care much for the story.
The main problem with the story is that there's a general lack of focus with it. Even though there are many interesting events taking place within the story, there isn't anything that pieces it all together, and makes the overall story jumbled and unconvincing. Lysandre claims that he wants to use the ancient, buried machine to wipe out most of people and Pokemon in the region, with the belief that Kalos is overpopulated and Pokemon will be used for warfare - which is all well and good, but the issue I find with this is that the idea just isn't expressed anywhere in the game at all. As you go on your journey to become the Pokemon League Champion, you get to see all of the towns of Kalos first-hand. And every town you see has people living in comfort and are well, for the most part. There's no sign at all of the region being overpopulated with people, and while you can state a case for the large variety of Pokemon available hinting at its overpopulation, there isn't the slightest of hints that the variety is actually a problem. But the main issue with the story is that there's such a huge disconnect between the Grunts and the Admins/Lysandre that it's destroys the entire credibility of the story. On one hand, Team Flare Grunts are running around boasting about their 'awesome' fashion sense and acting like idiots, but on the other hand there's people trying to hand over about a year's worth of wages to get on the Team Flare bandwagon to escape death. And Lysandre wants to get rid of most of the people in the region in order to make it better, claiming that too many people fighting for resources makes it troubling for everyone, yet the region itself is based on France's beauty and everything is peaceful and carefree. Nothing really fits properly within the story, and the end result is something that, while interesting and potentially thought-provoking, fails to come together and make enough sense to be taken seriously. I myself found Lysandre's goals to be quite interesting, but nothing else about the story really gave me that same interest, which is quite a shame.
When telling stories in games, or other forms of media, it's important to be able to convey the themes and topics you want to present to the reader elsewhere in your work that allow them to take in those themes and better understand what you're trying to tell them. For example, if you want to create a dark, atmospheric story, you may want to base the setting around a depressing, bleak city, or have many of your characters experience conflict that causes them despair. If you want to create a story based on the bonds between friends, you may want to give the main character a group of friends that provide a network of assistance and encouragement for said character that ultimately makes them a better person. X and Y decided to write their main villian with a utalitarian point-of-view where his actions, while morally unsound, will ultimately benefit the region as a whole. Unfortunately, they did nothing to actually sell this theme or idea to you, which makes the entire plot seem silly, out-of-focus, and ultimately, unbelievable. If they wanted to create a better story, there could have been towns where the massive number of people led a majority of its inhabitants to poverty and starvation. There could have been Pokemon, faced with massive competition against the variety of Pokemon in the route for food and shelter, be forced to take up arms against their enemies or perform some other desperate action. There could have shown the problems with Kalos compared to other established regions when it came to their natural resources. But ultimately, they did none of these things, which make it impossible to see Lysandre's claim of Kalo's overpopulation as believable or genuine, essentially wasting the efforts of one of Pokemon's greatest villians.
But as for the features of the game itself, I'm loving many of the changes they made. A good number of them addresses issues I also found with the Pokemon game as a whole, such as the Dragon and Steel type, breeding mechanics, IV generation, and even the EV system - it's nice to know that my thoughts weren't unfounded Many of their changes, were in the right direction, though I find a few of them to be odd, such as Dark hitting through Steel (I'd advocate against that if Aegislash wasn't a thing) and Electrics being unable to be paralyzed period. Still, I love many of the changes they made, and I love how all of the Pokemon have 3D models - being able to play with them in Pokemon-Amie and battling with them feels more immersive than ever before, which is an experience no other Pokemon game has been able to produce on this level. Ultimately, I find Pokemon X and Y to be a solid game - it's online features and changes to game mechanics makes going competitive more accessible than ever before, and the amount of in-game features should be able to keep casual players entertained as well. |
